PAST PRODUCTIONS

The Akshara follows the aims and objectives of the Society, through its three main activities performance and presentation of the classical arts in the Akshara Theatre arts complex and outside, film-making, and training in the performing arts.
 
The Akshara presents original performances of theatre, music and dance from its own repertoire, performed by its own company of performers.
 
The Akshara also presents artists and groups in its theatres
 
In addition to these main activities, the Akshara carries out many other activities all through the year, including book publishing, research in the classics, stone sculpture – work, etc. The Akshara also presents talks, lectures, workshops and film screenings as part of its activities

The most well known production of the Akshara is
Gopal Sharman's The Ramayana.
 
 The Ramayana  was originally performed as a one-woman solo tour-de-force performance by the celebrated actress Jalabala Vaidya, who performed it on Broadway, London’s West End, United Nations Headquarters, National Theatres of Europe, Canada, as far as the Fiji Islands, as well as in 35 Indian cities and towns: from Mumbai to Manipal, Kolkata to Jammu, Delhi to Calicut -- to packed houses, rave reviews and standing ovations worldwide – creating dramatic history. 
 
First presented all over India and internationally as a solo tour de force triumph of Jalabala Vaidya it is now playing at the Akshara Theatre New Delhi, in its full cast version with Jalabala performing the opening of the play -- as the Contemporary Person, the Katha Vachaka, Dasharatha and Kaikeyi at the start of the play, and Rama and Sita at the end of the play, while a cast of superbly talented young actors performs the other scenes creating an exciting and innovative theatrical experience,. 

The Akshara Theatre is a platform for cutting edge , innovative theatre presented by its own repertory company as well as other talented directors, writers and actors from around the country, even the world.
